cowgirl gift ideas

Oooooooh, now have my eye on several items from Cowboys-Sweetheart for Christmas gifts. Owner/designer Amy Fortunato, who lives in Boulder, creates one-of-a-kind pieces that capture the cowgirl spirit of the Great West. While lingering over which jewelry to buy, Amy and I have been trading a few doggie pictures. Here are her boys, Cowboy and Nugget.

And here are a few pieces from her collection.

Read Amy’s  blog, Read ’em and Weep, or see more jewelry on her Facebook page.

kinfolk

Site of the week: Kinfolk Magazine. Whether your gathering is large or small this week, may the spirit of Thanksgiving live at your table and in your lives all throughout the year.

Manifesto:
Kinfolk is a growing community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings. We recognize that there is something about a table shared by friends, not just a wedding or once-a-year holiday extravaganza, that anchors our relationships and energizes us. We have come together to create Kinfolk as our collaborative way of advocating the natural approach to entertaining that we love.

vestie davis

You don’t have to live in New York to appreciate the art of Vestie Davis (1903-1978). His paintings and drawings just make you feel good.  We were lucky enough to catch a retrospective of this self-taught artist’s work at the American Folk Art Museum‘s Lincoln Center branch awhile back, and I could barely tear myself away from each scene we came upon. To give each painting a “sweet melody” was his aesthetic mission. Davis’ vibrant, colorful, crowd-filled places capture mid-century New York in fantastical detail and evoke a kind of nostalgic happiness. Hope you enjoy taking a peek at his world.
