vestie davis

You don’t have to live in New York to appreciate the art of Vestie Davis (1903-1978). His paintings and drawings just make you feel good.  We were lucky enough to catch a retrospective of this self-taught artist’s work at the American Folk Art Museum‘s Lincoln Center branch awhile back, and I could barely tear myself away from each scene we came upon. To give each painting a “sweet melody” was his aesthetic mission. Davis’ vibrant, colorful, crowd-filled places capture mid-century New York in fantastical detail and evoke a kind of nostalgic happiness. Hope you enjoy taking a peek at his world.
