Summer Angel is ‘WildSweet’

I first met Summer Angel through a horse friend who raved about her massages. Turns out, this former day spa owner lives just down the road from us and now practices massage therapy out of her home studio. Summer is also the owner of WildSweet and makes a wide range of healing products she sells at local farmers markets. (That’s her on the left with sister Haley.) Today, not only are we clients and customers of hers, but also friends — and we feel so lucky to have such a sweet and gifted neighbor.

A short conversation with Summer…

What kinds of products do you make?

I make all-natural products with many healing qualities. Many of the ingredients we gather on our farm – various herbs, flowers…even weeds, which can make the best products. I use a lot of dandelions, purple dead nettle, comfrey, lemon balm, mullein and hendbit.

What inspired you to start an alchemy business?

I struggled with some major health issues for a while, along with my sister who has lupus. This started the journey developing healing balms and items of comfort, and it just grew from there.

Tell us about the name WildSweet.

The name WildSweet makes me think of wildflowers or anything growing in nature. ‘Not tame and very pleasant,’ I like to say.

Do you have a favorite item or ‘must-have’?

The whipped sugar scrub is divine! I’m a big fan of all the magnesium products, which help with sleep and have many other benefits. I also love the dandelion salve. And the comfrey balm. Friends keep coming back for our Elderflower Fire Cider, which is super spicy and full of nutrients. My husband and I take a shot daily. 😊

What products are you dreaming up for the future?

Oooh, I’m always thinking of new things to make. Right now, I’m working on some whipped tallow products along with a primrose face cream.

What do you love most about local farmers markets?

The connections! Working with so many farmers and artists just inspires me. And I love that everything is grown and produced locally and handmade. It’s just so special.

Listen to the conversation HERE. (oh, and Emily’s also the author of The Story of Alabama in Fourteen Foods…)

“My story in Alabama is really a love story…” she says, while discussing just some of the reasons they both cherish this state.
