Friends, we’re seeking names for our two adopted chicks (see below). Hers & Hers names preferred. Mike suggested Marsala and Parmesan. Please…before he wins out…help! Post ideas here or send to cdavanzo@mindspring.com. Winning pair of names is going to get a free surprise from us in the mail (and, no, it won’t be the baby chicks!). Thanks bunches. ~C
Orchard Update
We now have 26 healthy little trees growing in the orchard, thanks to Mr. Wigley, who helps us with some of the greenery around here. This year we’re determined to bring the sweet ol’ orchard back to fruit-bearing life. New additions include:
Golden & Red Delicious Apple
- Gala & Granny Smith Apple
- Early White Giant Peach
- Delicious Peach
- Elberta Queen Peach
- Bartlett & Delicious Pear
- Brown Turkey Fig
- Rabbiteye Blueberry Bushes
Also, the vegetable garden is being moved to a better spot (last year, Lisa B. and I planted a really nice garden…just in the wrong spot…my bad). But this year we’re gonna do better.
Keep ya posted.
Not Long Now :)
Mike’s To-Do List…Part 7
Oh my, this spring-like weather has got us thinking about alllllll the stuff we need to do at the farm, like…
1. Revisit “Mike’s To-Do Lists…Parts 1-6.”
3. Plant new fruit trees that will grow well out here. (Mr. Wigley, who keeps the place lookin’ good, is suggesting apples, peaches, figs and plums.)
4. Finish tearing down old greenhouse/pool storage shed.
5. Call John the pool guy about a new filter.
6. Keep working on old barn. Paint it. Replace rusted metal roof panels. Replace more rotten wood. Burn those 40 pallets piled up in the stalls.
8. Meet with Ron to go over plans for new poolhouse.
9. Sweet-talk Ron into helping repair shower stall floor, door, tile in guest bath.
10. Call a plumber to replace toilet in same bath.
11. Meet with Shae re: pasture fencing.
12. Deal with seven dead pines behind the barn.
13. Clean up around the pond.
14. Clean up around the creek.
15. Clear the old walking/riding trails through the woods.
16. Buy a wheelbarrow, maybe two.
18. Etc.
19. Etc.
20. Etc.
Mikey Builds A Doghouse
Mike D’Avanzo is getting handier and handier. Last month he designed and built a 7’x4′ doghouse in the new dog paddock
to acccomodate our three Great Danes – Linus
(165 lbs.), Lola (150 lbs.) and their pup, Sammi Lu (70 lbs. and counting). The house is vented, heated, will have insulation, and now Mike says he may add a wet bar. He even recycled old wood from the pasture fence we tore down and sided the house
to look like a rough old barn. And if all that wasn’t enough, Dad decided to finish it with a tin, errrrr, woof.
