I’ve made peace with the fact that this farm renovation thing is going to take a long time. Especially when you have a modest budget and a handy husband who insists on doing most everything himself. But! The dining room is almost finished.

Die, You Nasty Appliances, Die!

At last, I finally talked Mike into getting rid of all the old appliances in the house. It took some doing, let me tell ya (“Whaddya mean?” he says. “These all work fine. They’ll last a long time.”) But gross. The dishwasher emitted an unidentifiable bad odor. The trash compactor was missing some front pieces and, well, I was too afraid to look in it. The refrigerator looked like it must have stored deer meat and old-peeps’ medicines. And then there was the matter of the petrified dead rat wedged between the dryer and the wall. They all HAD TO GO. So bye-bye, nasty applicances. Hello, shiny new ones. (Thanks, dear hubby!)

Meet Fred ‘n Ethel. Apparently, this happy couple has lived in our farmhouse for awhile. Every time we pick them up and gently move them outside, they end up back inside–usually to hang out and sunbathe in the great room. So…since the “Mertzes” were here first, we figure they can stay as long as they like.
