Adorable, right? These egg salt-n-pepper shakers were made by potter Lisa Bienko of Ocala, Fla. When she was a little girl, Lisa was always playing in the dirt…making mud pies and “borrowing” spoons and pans from her mama’s kitchen as she mastered her craft. Now she’s all grown up but still plays in the mud, often leaving a few handprints around her house. Add a happy touch to your breakfast table with your own set of these funny little shakers which come with their own chicken feet stands. Available in speckled white and robin egg blue.
We’re big fans of this country balm/herbal healing salve used to treat dry skin, sunburn, bug bites, blisters, minor scrapes, skin blemishes — even pet boo-boos!
We found the soothing remedy at a local farmers market and made nice with Mark, the creator, so he’d make us a big batch for the Mercantile. This herbal healing salve is formulated with olive oil and infused with calendula, comfrey, beeswax and castor oil, the salve promotes natural healing and has a light, clean scent. Comes in a handy 1.5 oz. tin. Made by the Simple Life Soap Co.
Inspired by the late-summer sunflowers that tower over our garden, these delightful Sgraffito porcelain sunflower bowls were designed by Betsy Burts, a clay artist, illustrator and graphic designer who was born in Florence, Ala. and now makes her home in Atlanta, Ga.
Each of these delightful porcelain sunflower bowls is hand built with slabs of clay, then carefully carved and washed in a tranquil glaze of pale celadon blue-green. Size: 6.5 inches diameter, 1.5 inches tall. Food safe. Hand wash only.
A piggy bank reminds us to put some money away for a rainy day and teaches kids how to manage their finances (aka allowance) from an early age. These little piggies were hand cast using vintage molds by creator Lisa Bienko. They’re glazed in happy colors, like bright orange, aqua blue and rich oxblood red with rustic highlights, and stand roughly 5.5 inches high by 6.5 inches long. Each has a rubber stopper in his belly, so you don’t have to break the bank if you ever find yourself in need of a cash advance. Every time we look at these, they make us smile.
Wear a piece of the past with these sexy vintage leather jewelry cuffs by leatherworks artist Janna Brooks.
Fashioned from actual livestock tack found in old barns and flea markets, Janna lovingly restores vintage farm leather to fashion this stunning jewelry. These particular vintage leather jewelry cuffs were made from an old mule yoke found during an antiquing adventure. Hand stitched and adorned with hand-cast recycled pewter accents inspired by organic forms found in nature, each piece is, well, rustically perfect. We’ve already kept two just for ourselves!
Make your kitchen even more elegant with these gorgeous wooden spoons, carved lovingly out of an old cherry tree by woodworker Arne Jonesen of Dogtown, Alabama. The 5-piece set even includes a little pickle fork!
You absolutely can put all your eggs in this little basket! Found while picking at an Alabama flea market. Only two in stock. Holds up to two dozen eggs. (These eggs courtesy of the Cerakko Farm hens.)
